Island County Jail

Island County Jail sits on Main Street in Coupeville, Washington.  Coupeville sits out on Whidbey Island with a large tourist income.  It is also home to one of many United States Coast Guard Stations.  It is a fairly small town of about 1,723 people and is known for its scenic views and quaint small town charm.  The Island County Jail rules and regulations are pretty straight forward and not unlike other jails across the United States.  This jail is what is known as a “cost recovery” jail which means that they charge the inmates for everything that they use.  There is, of course, a booking fee like most jails but they also charge the inmates for use of toiletries and other conveniences such as medications and even medical care during their stay.  The fee uses ranges from 40-100 dollars.

The Island County jail is a small jail with a total of sixty-five beds and contains ten separated blocks that are labeled from A-J.  Additionally, there are two rooms for attorneys to meet with their clients in as well as five visiting booths that are “no contact”.  The facility has every single block under surveillance.

If you are interested in coming to Whidbey Island to visit an inmate in the Island County jail, be aware that the visiting times are different for non residents of the island than they are for those that actually live there full time.  If you are from the island, expect your visit to be limited to only twenty minutes while those that are non residents are allotted a time span of forty minutes.  While it might seem unfair, it makes sense since those from outside the island have to spend time traveling to get there.
